Early Intervention Resources

Early Intervention Resources

  • Child Find – Child Find is a component of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth to 21, who are in need of early intervention or special education services.
  • Autism Speaks – Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle.
  • Big Bend Hospice – Licensed since 1983, Big Bend Hospice provides expert health care, encouragement, hope, compassion and companionship to people with a limited life expectancy so that they can complete personal goals and find spiritual and emotional peace.
  • CARD – The Center at Florida State University serves both children and adults with autism spectrum disorders who experience all levels of intellectual functioning. The Center also serves people with dual sensory impairments, or sensory impairment with other disabling conditions. Our primary focus is to provide an individualized, direct response to the needs of these individuals and their families.
  • Down Syndrome Online – Down Syndrome Online offers comprehensive information about Down syndrome, including articles, books and scientific papers.
  • FAIMH – Our vision is that one day all children will be emotionally healthy, equipped to learn, and nurtured to develop their full potential.
  • FIRST WORDS Project – FIRST WORDS Project is a model early identification and intervention program based in the Department of Communication Disorders at Florida State University. Staffed by speech-language pathologists and interdisciplinary consultants, we are funded to evaluate the communication development of children from 6 to 24 months of age in Leon County. For children who are delayed in communication development, we offer families a menu of service options. Services are offered at no cost to families or service providers, based on availability of grant funds. In addition to services provided in Leon County, we are developing educational materials for training of healthcare and childcare providers to build their capacities for earlier detection of communication problems in young children.
  • Fisher-Price Special Needs Activities for Children with Special Needs – Fisher-Price has developed a partnership aimed at helping special needs children learn with experts from the Let’s Play! Projects. The federally funded program supports family play activities and experiences for children with special needs. Activities for Children with Special Needs – Fisher-Price
  • KidsHealth – KidsHealth’s Parents section has doctor-approved, accurate, up-to-date, and jargon-free health information about children from before birth through adolescence.
  • Lee's Place – It is the mission of Lee's Place to provide counseling and educational services to those who are adjusting to a loss, whether the loss is a death, a divorce or abandonment.
  • National Down Syndrome Society – National Down Syndrome Society benefits people with Down syndrome and their families through national leadership in education. This is the number one site for information and Down syndrome.
  • Stuttering Foundation of America – Stuttering Foundation of America provides free online resources, services and support to those who stutter and their families, as well as support for research into the causes of stuttering.
  • Advocacy Center - To advance the quality of life, dignity, equality, self-determination, and freedom of choice of persons with disabilities through collaboration, education, advocacy, as well as legal and legislative strategies.
  • Early Steps – Early Steps is Florida's early intervention system that offers services to infants and toddlers (birth to thirty-six months) with significant delays or a condition likely to result in a developmental delay.
