Need Help Paying for Child Care?

Many families can’t afford child care so they can work when the average cost of full-time child care for one child is over $5,000 a year. The ELC can help at-risk and low-income working families with these costs by providing child care tuition assistance through the School Readiness program.

Law requires the ELC to determine eligibility partly on purpose for care (working, attending school, etc.), household income and number of people in the household. We enroll into the School Readiness program when there are available funds. Typically, there is a waitlist to receive services. To see if you may be eligible for this program, access Florida’s Early Learning Family Portal.

What is the Family Portal?

The Early Learning Family Portal is a web-based system through which parents apply for the School Readiness and VPK programs. A parent only needs an email address and access to a computer to apply. ELC staff review applications and communicate with parents through the Family Portal.

Once the ELC enrolls a parent in the School Readiness program, the parent must recertify for services before their redetermination deadline to stay in the program. This deadline is on your Child Care Certificate. It is important for parents to keep their recertification appointments so they don’t lose eligibility for the program.
