A Message From the ELC / Providers / Professional Development

Professional Development

Professional Development

Early Childhood Professional Development

One of the key components to creating and maintaining a quality child care program is providing early childhood teachers with the support, education and resources needed to be successful in the classroom. The ELC provides a variety of professional development opportunities and support services to early childhood teachers. Our goal is to promote school readiness and improve learning outcomes of young children by providing high quality, up-to-date professional development. These opportunities improve the knowledge and skills of early childhood educators and caregivers.

CLASSroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)

The Florida Legislature passed House Bill 1091 which will become effective on July 1, 2018. It contains new program assessment requirements that affect School Readiness providers caring for children aged birth to five years.  Currently CLASS has been selected as the program assessment tool. CLASS is an observation-based program assessment instrument that measures teacher-child interactions in three broad areas: emotional support, classroom organization and instructional support. This assessment describes multiple teaching components linked to student achievement and social development. Learn more about CLASS by completing Introduction to Pre-K CLASS online training or Introduction to Toddler CLASS online training.

To gain access to these courses, please email a list of teacher's names, email addresses and what preschool/FCCH employed at to Dana McMillan at [email protected]

Infant/Toddler Making The Most of Classroom Interaction ( 24 Contact Hours & CEUs)

CLASS Group Coaching (MMCI) is an interactive course for teachers led by a Teachstone®-trained coach. Over the course of ten or twelve sessions, your coach provides in-person training, preparing teachers to identify, understand, and apply stronger CLASS® interactions in their classrooms. Costs may apply if the provider is not participating in the Early Learning Performance Funding Project. The trainings require at least ten participants, but do not exceed 20 per class.

Contact Melanie Worley at [email protected] to learn more.

Pre-K CLASS Observer Training:  $175 Per person

Toddler CLASS Observer Training: $175 Per person

CLASS Observer Training helps you build capacity to collect CLASS teaching assessment data, which is the first step in improving the quality of teacher-student interactions in the classroom.  By creating certified CLASS observers, programs will:

  • Gain meaningful data on classroom quality to inform coaching interventions
  • Prepare coaches to conduct formal and informal teacher observations
  • Build a strong foundation for coaches beginning their CLASS journey, as they develop CLASS fluency and satisfy a prerequisite for all CLASS coaching programs

Why We Recommend This

Research shows that CLASS improves teacher-student interactions, measures effective interactions across age levels and grades and promotes academic gains.

Who Uses CLASS Observation Training:

CLASS Observation Training is great for organizations that want to collect data to support local, state, and federal compliance requirements, as well as organizations that want to evaluate classroom quality.

.

What to Expect

  • Training materials and a 2-month CLASS Video Library subscription
  • Access to online reliability testing and automated feedback
